Extending Kindness Helps Your Recovery
In life, you will certainly be faced with negative people and negative situations at various times. There are annoying neighbors, rude store clerks, selfish bosses, insensitive lovers, controlling in-laws, and so on. Unless you are a recluse, you will have to deal with the character defects and moodiness of people.
Whether you’re in recovery from alcoholism or whether you still struggle, you have to ask yourself just how will you respond in such situations? Will you make a rude comment? Will you allow your mood to be altered all day? Will you allow resentment and bitterness to take hold? Will you harbor negative thoughts? Will you resort to a relapse?
Extend kindness no matter what
Good news is that you don’t have to. You can make a decision right now to love all of those you come into contact with on a daily basis despite how they treat you. You can remove all expectations of how others should treat you and love them unconditionally knowing that you are loved unconditionally by your Higher Power.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, good days and bad days, and a unique story. Determine to respond to such with a loving glance, a loving thought, word, or behavior. Bless those that curse you and indeed turn the other cheek. When negativity and darkness surround you, allow your light and love to radiate outward to dispel that darkness. When it seems like all is chaotic around you, release your love and peace into the situation and believe for the best.
You will discover true peace and joy
What will happen as you determine to let love rule your day is that you will discover an endless river of joy and bliss that flows into you and out through you into others. You will find yourself happier and less likely to start drinking alcohol again. As you allow your Higher Power to love through you, you open doors for all sorts of abundance to come to you.
